With the NBA Finals underway, there’s a lot of talk around SHS about the games. During the first game, which was held on June 2nd, the Celtics and the Golden State Warriors faced off in the NBA Championship. Boston hasn’t won the Finals since 2008–let alone been to this point–since 2010. 

Led by the dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown, the Celtics took Game 1. It was close in the first half, and Golden State took control of the third quarter. Stephen Curry of Golden State was huge and picked up where he left off in the first half, taking a double-digit lead at the end of the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the Celtics came out hot with Al Horford leading the way and finishing with 26 points. The Celtics won the game 120-108.

Game 2 wasn’t as glamorous for the Celtics. They couldn’t make a shot–the only thing keeping them going was Jayson Tatum. The Warriors came out hot just like they did out of the Half in Game 1, but this time they kept their momentum and won the game 107-88.

With the series tied 1-1 and with the turn of events so far, we asked students to share their thoughts on the series.

According to SHS freshman Jett Rehm, the series is “very interesting”; furthermore, he predicts the Celtics will win the series. Fellow freshman Dah’kye Garner predicted “Warriors in 7,” but SHS junior Jordan Barthel didn’t share the same feelings. When asked who was going to win the series, he said the Celtics: “I think it’s going to be close though. Maybe in six or seven games, but I think the Celtics are going to win.”

Barthel’s classmate, SHS junior Luke Bossey, offered his thoughts on the first two games: “Game 1 was a great win by the Celtics. They really showed up in the 4th quarter. Love the energy. The boys really played their hearts out but couldn’t compete with Steph Curry and Jordan Poole.” When asked about the series going forward, Bossey said, “Game 3 is a win–we have the momentum on our side now that the series is in Boston. I think the Celts can do it in six.”
