Sheskey and Scibilo: A reflection of their time on the SHS gridiron

Ryan Murray, Gates Middle School Contributing Writer

The Scituate High School football program is looking at an okay record this year with 4-3 going up against Canton for a playoff win. Canton is the #1 seed in the league, and Scituate is #8. The reigning Division 5 Super Bowl champs are looking to get a win in the playoffs as they continue adjusting to their new quarterback, senior Matthew Scibilio. I interviewed Will Sheskey (senior running back) and Matt “Scibs” Scibilo for their thoughts.

How do you feel about the season so far?

Sheskey: We have a lot of ups and downs and some losses that stung for being a senior…we had a few things that didn’t go our way, which is tough knowing that we had bad weather and some bad penalties. But at the same time, we had some good things happen to us.”

Scibilio: I feel pretty good about the season. We have a lot of ups and downs, but I think this will be a good season.

How do you feel about not having a home field, and is that affecting the team?

Sheskey: On a personal level it’s tough not having a home field, but in the end, it comes to how we play.

Scibilio: It’s tough, but we have fans that come to where we play no matter how far the game is.

How do you feel about the transition from Aidan Sullivan to Matt Scibilio?

Sheskey: Well, Aidan had his strengths and Scibs has his. But Scibs is throwing the rock and is doing good. Also, I have been playing with Scibs for a while, so we have that quarterback and running back connection.

Scibilio: Aidan taught me a lot. Transition is well learned, and I learned from him for a while.

What are some important things did you learn from playing football for Scituate?

Sheskey: That every lesson that you learn in football can go to your life, too. Also, I learned that you can receive everything with a team.

Scibilio: How to deal with situations that you are under the pressure.

What is your best moment and/or who is your favorite person on the Scituate High School football team?

Sheskey: My best moment is when we were going against Holliston and Coach Divine told us that when you are 35 you will be telling your kids that you won against Holliston.

Scibilio: Beating Higham last year in the Thanksgiving game felt good to me since we lost to them last year in my sophomore year.
