The Scituate High School girls’ soccer team will be reeling next year with the loss of one of their most talented players: senior captain Molly Peters. Peters is a four year varsity player, one of only two freshmen on the team in the fall of 2008. It is no coincidence that SHS girls’ soccer has qualified for the playoffs for the last four years, with Peters positioned at left midfield. One of her favorite moments was beating Duxbury, a perpetual Scituate rival, when she was an underclassman.
Peters is one of the two captains on the team this season. Senior Katy McMahon said “It was no surprise Molly was made captain. She has always been helpful.”
While some might crack under the mounting pressure of senior year in addition to a demanding soccer schedule, Peters loves the responsibility and leadership that accompany her captain status.
“As a captain, everyone looks up to you. I try my best to encourage the team,” said Peters.
So far, senior year has been Peters’s favorite. She loves that the team has grown increasingly close over the last four years and that everyone is included. When asked what she will miss the most about SHS soccer, Peters says she will mostly miss the “friendships, the family lifestyle, and the team feeling.”
Peters is unsure about her future with the sport, saying she might play varsity, intramural or club in college, depending on the school. Her top choices for college are Bentley University, located in Waltham Massachusetts, and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She hopes to pursue a degree in business and enter the field of sports marketing and management.
Other than soccer, Peters has been a valuable addition to both the tennis team and the track team over the last four years. In addition, she works at Jake’s Seafood Restaurant in Hull. With such a busy schedule, Peters doesn’t have time for much else. However, she still finds time to relax with friends and family.
Another one of Peters’s most memorable moments was the Scituate High School Spanish Exchange. In September of 2010 a group of about thirty students traveled from Bilbao, Spain to live with students from SHS for two weeks. In April of 2011 Scituate students then visited Bilbao to live with their exchange students for two weeks. Peters formed a close bond with her exchange student, Jasmina, and continues to keep in touch with her. Peters immensely enjoyed meeting new people and being emerged in a new and different culture.
For underclassman balancing sports, school, and college applications Peters has a few words of wisdom.
“Don’t fall behind, start early, and manage your time,” she says. Considering her success, underclassman would be wise to listen.
