The long-awaited renovation of the new boys’ locker room was finished in time to welcome the 2025-26 school year. Back in 2023, the girls’ locker room was renovated, and both locker rooms provide SHS athletes with a safe and modern space to change and store equipment.
When asked to comment about the renovations, SHS Athletic Director Scott Paine commented, “I think they are both really nice. There’s a little bit of difference between the two of them, because we could only work within the space. The girls’ locker room is bigger because of the footprint that was already there, but they were designed by the same architect, all the same material, flooring, tiles, lockers. I think it’s almost like college locker rooms.”
SHS senior Christopher DiMeo, a member of the football team, said his favorite aspect of the new locker room is the lockers, noting, “Last year we had beach chairs and showers, so now we actually have lockers we can sit in and put our pads above.”
In the fall, football players use the locker room more than other male athletes, which may lead some people to think the football team is prioritized over other teams. However, when senior soccer captain Alex Roche was asked if the soccer team feels excluded from the new facility, he replied, “No, I mean I feel like we don’t really need it. We can change in the bathroom because we’re not spending much time between halves.”
Paine reiterated that the football team is not given more priority.
When asked about any additional upgrades to the locker rooms, Paine stated, “I did speak with the business manager about having some graphics put in the room on the walls on both locker rooms, boys and girls, because right now they are just blue, so we’re gonna have a company come in and put up some graphics.”
