As a member of Boston Globe’s Spotlight investigative journalism department, Thomas Farragher was part of the Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal in 2001. A Scituate resident, Farragher visited Scituate High School on Thursday, meeting with members of the Scituation staff. As part of his visit, Farragher discussed his role in Spotlight, as well as the 2015 biographic drama depicting Spotlight’s role in uncovering the scandal. While not portrayed in the Academy Award winning drama, Farragher was nonetheless an important part of the investigative journalism department at the Boston Globe. As a winner of the American Society of Newspaper Editor’s top award for deadline news reporting, and a 39 year veteran of journalism, Farragher offered wisdom to the Scituation staff, highlighting the duty of journalists to uncover stories of importance.
