Eric Fagerlund is thrilled to be the new investing/finance teacher at Scituate High School. Before joining the Scituate community, Fagerlund worked at Weymouth High School, where he taught entrepreneurship, website development, and software application classes involving Microsoft, Office, and Google Suite.

One of Fagerlund’s goals for this school year is to continue to build better relationships with his students. Fagerlund emphasized how much he loves “interacting with the kids every day.” He credits his students for getting him through the workday: “I get a lot of energy from the kids.” He added, “The most rewarding part of the day is when I see a student who I have been having a conversation with for 10 or 15 minutes, and all of a sudden that light bulb will go off, and I see them figure out something we’ve been discussing and working on all day.”

Fagerlund appreciates the Scituate faculty and administration for welcoming him into the SHS community. Fagerlund said, “The administration, kids, and colleagues have made it easy for me to become a part of the community.”

Before becoming a teacher at Scituate, Fagerlund became the new head coach of the swim and dive team for the high school. He loves saying hello and checking in with his players throughout the school day, whether he spots them in the halls or his classroom. Likewise, Fagerlund is eager to get more involved with the community to connect with his students and colleagues.

Fagerlund feels the biggest challenge this year has been learning and adapting to the high school’s seven-day schedule. He said, “Rotating classes that drop have thrown me for a loop.” After teaching at Weymouth, he is accustomed to meeting with his students daily but has slowly adapted to Scituate’s schedule.

Fagerlund has two adult children; his daughter attends the University of New Hampshire, and his son is a first-year student at the University of Vermont. At home, his two dogs, Molly and Winnie, provide company for him and his wife while their children are at school.

An interesting fact about Mr. Fagerlund is his dream vacation spot: Alaska. Fagerland wishes to tour the glaciers on a cruise and spot a polar bear. Fagerlund also thinks he’s an excellent singer, but his family tells him otherwise.

Mr. Fagerlund is an excellent addition to the Scituate High School staff and is thrilled to embark on this new adventure.
