Traveling, spending time on yachts, participating in intense exercise, donating to charity, and hanging out with celebrities are all activities that sound like a life only a popstar could live. Is this person Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Lawrence? Guess again.

Scituate High School Cafeteria Manager Cathy Epervary has lived a jam-packed life full of once in a lifetime opportunities. Epervary started off her adult life when she graduated from Wesley College with an associate degree, and continued her education as she earned a bachelor’s degree at Shippensburg University. After her extensive education was completed, Epervary moved to Long Island, New York, where she sold yacht cruises to famous celebrities. Chatting with people like Tommy Hilfiger and Leonardo DiCaprio was the norm for Epervary, as she sold cruises to numerous celebrities. Epervary continued on to new jobs specializing in food services.

Epevary became interested in food services as a teenager when she worked her first job at a Baskin Robbins. She loved seeing the smiles she could put on kids’ faces when she scooped them ice cream, and she adored the social aspect of food services. She continued through college by bartending, waitressing, and working as an assistant manager at a restaurant. Epervary then made her way to Scituate High School, where she has worked for almost four years.

Working in food services has been a big part of Epervary’s life, but it is not all of it. Along with working in the cafeteria, Epervary loves participating in charity work. Running in Diva Dashes, Muck Runs, and other 5ks, Epervary said, “I feel we are all here to serve and not be served, so I have always stressed the importance with my kids to give back.” She also enjoys volunteering in feeding the hungry, rebuilding lives, wellness and healthy living, helping others, nonprofits and advocacy related campaigns to fill up the spaces in her free time.

Epervary believes in promoting healthy living in and out of the cafeteria. One of Epervary’s many hobbies is martial arts, in particular, Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She has been practicing for fifteen years and achieved a blue belt in 2012. She is very dedicated to this sport, practicing seven nights a week if she can. She hopes to achieve a black belt as soon as possible.

Even though Epervary has achieved a lot in her life, she is excited for the future and plans on joining many new activities. She just signed up for a new community group called “Neighbor to Neighbor,” where people cook for families in need, and she is very excited to start. Epervary is also attending a “Taste of the Nation” event in Boston, which supports the group “#NoKidsHungry.” Epervary’s life may sound busy, but she is always looking for more activities. She said, “With Katie graduating in June and the activities I do with the schools coming to an end, I will have to find something to do.”
