There’s a new band heart breaking across the US. Rixton is an uprising British pop/rock/R&B band that originated in Manchester, UK. They gained their popularity from covers they posted on YouTube of famous artists such as Taylor Swift and Chris Brown. The band is composed of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Jake Roche and Danny Wilkin on bass and keys. Lead guitarist Charley Bangall and drummer Lewi Morgan complete the band. The birth of Rixton originated from Jake and Danny practicing the art of music writing three years ago. Two years later they met Charley through mutual friends. One year later they met Lewis in an alley behind a pub when he was performing on pots and pans. Scooter Braun, a talent manager who has represented Carly Rae Jepsen and The Wanted, found the boys through their growing popularity on YouTube. Working with GRAMMY winning producer Benny Blanco, the boys will be releasing their full album, Let The Road, on January 6th. The album features already released songs, now available on iTunes, such as “Me and My Broken Heart” and “Wait On Me.” “Me and My Broken Heart” was released March 18th of this year and was a success in the US, hitting number 14 on billboard.com charts. The band is going on tour with famous singer Ariana Grande at the end of February. Unfortunately, they do not have a tour date set for Boston or Massachusetts.
Rixton has been compared to artists such as Maroon 5 for the sound of lead singer, Jake Roche. Their hit song, “Me and My Broken Heart” starts off the chorus with Roche bringing in the audience with the hook, “I’m hoping it might kick start, Me and My Broken Heart.” This catchy love song will no doubt bounce around your head for the rest of your day. It sold 93,000 copies in mid-April of this year, only a few weeks after its release in March, according to Nielsen SoundScan. “Wait On Me” is another one of their songs that’s slowly gaining popularity. “They’re both catchy songs that you can’t help but sing along to,” said senior Caitlin Davidson, adding, “They remind me of summer.”
When you see pictures of the band for the first time, watch out for the drool! When presented with a picture of the boys, senior Leah Block said, “On a scale from 1-10 they’re like a 250.” They’re not your typical boy band: their rugged, urban, chic looks really stick out and draw people in. They all have that charming, irresistible, clean-cut look.
Rixton truly have potential for great success in the music industry and will continue their rise to fame. They’re definitely worth checking out!
