Mrs. Bulman
Whether you have the flu or need a bandaid, the nurse’s office is the place to go. Mrs. Bulman is the new school nurse, and she is here for the students if they need any medical assistance. Bulman grew up in Melrose, Massachusetts, where she lived her whole life. Not only did she graduate from Boston University’s School of Nursing, but Bulman received her first job experience at a local hospital in Melrose working as a housekeeper. As the new nurse at Scituate High School, Bulman loves the environment and the people with whom she works. At home, she has three kids, ages 14, 13, and 12, with her husband of seventeen years. Fortunately, for Bulman, working and living on the South Shore is perfect because she says her favorite place to vacation is “some kind of beach.”
Ms. Colangelo
Another brand new face to the Scituate High School language department is Ms. Colangelo, who teaches a variety of Spanish classes. Having grown up in Duxbury, Massachusetts, Colangelo is a New Englander at heart, even though she traveled to North Carolina for college. She attended Elon, a private university in North Carolina. Her first job was at Far Far’s Danish Ice Cream Shop in her hometown. In addition, Colangelo’s favorite TV show is Breaking Bad, while her favorite movie is The Departed. When asked about her experience at SHS so far, Colangelo immediately replied that working with students was the best part of her job by far.
Ms. Fritz
In the famous history department of SHS, Ms. Fritz was added as a promising new teacher. Fritz was always the hardworking type, getting her first job at the age of 14, where she worked both nights and weekends waitressing at a local restaurant. She grew up in Rockport, Massachusetts on the North Shore, which she said is a “very small town similar to Scituate, with beaches, restaurants, shops.” After high school, Fritz attended Bridgewater State University. Her favorite past-time activity when she isn’t working, of course, is Netflix. Not only does she enjoy watching The Walking Dead, but she also loves exciting dramas such as the Game of Thrones. In addition, Vail, Colorado is the prime vacation spot for Fritz. She spent last winter there, where she enjoyed skiing in the mountains. Fritz dreams of traveling anywhere and everywhere. But for now, during the school year at least, she is working at SHS where “everybody is really welcoming and students and staff alike are just good people,” she said.
Ms. Gleba
Another new addition to the SHS English Department is Ms. Gleba. After growing up in a town called Niskayuna in Upstate New York, she moved to Vermont to attend Saint Michael’s College. From there she attended Lesley University in Cambridge, where she received her graduate degree. Now at Scituate High School, Gleba is teaching English I, English III, and AP Language and Composition. Gleba’s first job was working at Panera while she was in high school. As for her favorite TV show, it’s a tie between Mad Men and Parks and Recreation. The Oscar winning film Almost Famous is her favorite movie. As for her favorite vacation spot, Gleba enjoys visiting her old stomping grounds, Burlington, Vermont. “It’s probably my favorite vacation spot. I really like it there,” she said. Gleba is loving the SHS environment so far, because “everybody’s been really nice and supportive.”
Mrs. Hall
Although many students already know her from Team F (Team Falcon) at Gates, Mrs. Hall is a new face to Scituate High School this year. She is teaching English 1, AP Language and Composition, Literature of the Self, and Honors Journalism. Hall received her undergraduate degree from UMASS Amherst and her graduate degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. When asked what she liked most about SHS so far, she said, “I love working with older students. It is very different from middle school. I am impressed with their intellectual curiosity and the fact that they are focused on their plans for after high school.” Growing up, Hall was raised all over the Midwest until her family settled in New England when she was 10 years old. Her first job was stocking shelves at Scituate Town Library until she moved on to better things, working at the coffee counter at Angelo’s, known today as the Village Market. Hall’s entire family graduated from Scituate High School, including her husband and two daughters, Nicole, who is 29, and Chloe, who is 24.
Mr. Kovach
Mr. Kovach is also a familiar face to some as he used to teach French 1 at Gates Intermediate School. Now at the high school, he is teaching multiple French courses. He was raised just one town over in Cohasset. Growing up, Kovach spent most of his summers earning money by landscaping local lawns. He went on to study at Clark University, a small liberal arts research university located in Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition, Kovach’s favorite vacation destination has to be Paris, which is quite predictable considering he speaks the language fluently. Kovach’s all time favorite TV show is The Office and his favorite movie is the 2001 romantic French comedy, entitled Amélie. Kovach said he is enjoying Scituate High so far because, “the kids are nice” and willing to learn.
Ms. Lima
Yet another face has been added to the Scituate High School foreign language department. Ms. Lima is temporarily subbing for Mrs. Murray while she is on maternity leave. She is very familiar with Scituate High as she is an alum, and her mother has been a teacher here for 27 years. Her very first job was working for a mobile pet spa, Zoomin Groomin. Some of her favorite things are similar to those of some students: Victorius is her favorite show, The Princess and the Frog is her favorite movie, and Disney is her favorite vacation spot. “I’m like, 13 years old,” she said. When asked about her favorite thing about Scituate High School she answered, “My department–the world language staff.” As the year continues, Lima hopes to develop great relationships with students.
Mr. Luette
Walking into school, students will see a man standing at the back door greeting each of them with a smile. This man is Mr. Luette, the new Assistant Principal of Scituate High. His studious years at Glassboro State College, located in New Jersey, paid off because they led him to SHS. Throughout his whole life, Luette has immersed himself in the world of athletics. Being the youngest of five kids in his family, he has always been used to staying active. One of his first jobs was lifeguarding at a pool. During high school, he participated in swimming, wrestling, football, baseball, and basketball. In college, Luette majored in Health and Physical Education and played Division III football. He was also the head football coach at a school in New Jersey and coached football at La Salle University in Pennsylvania. Luette was also the head coach at Sandwich High School for nine years before he came to SHS. Since Scituate is such a family-oriented community, Luette said, “It reminds me of where I grew up and is one of the reasons I’m really happy here.” Whether it’s welcoming students at the door, or on the football field, Scituate High School’s new VP is truly the MVP.
Mrs. Sullivan
With so many new faces at the high school, Mrs. Sullivan is not one of them for many of the students. She worked at Gates Intermediate School for seven years before taking on her new job at SHS as an English teacher. Although she has been working in Scituate for many years, Sullivan moved around a lot while she was growing up, living in many places until her sophomore year of high school, when she went to Cohasset High. After graduating from high school, Sullivan stayed in New England to attend Boston College as an undergraduate and Lesley University as a graduate student. To keep her motivation going, she taught at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA. During breaks, she likes to visit the place where she was born and spent her summers growing up: Ocean City, New Jersey on the Jersey Shore. Sullivan is married and has two children whom she loves spending time with and taking to scenic places both in New Jersey on the South Shore.
