SHS senior Emily Whitman is sending love and compassion from Scituate, Massachusetts, to Parkland, Florida, with a banner supporting students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.  Whitman said she plans on creating a banner that Scituate High School students will sign and send to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. “Everyone here can sign it, and it’s just going to be love and support from us and our school so that they have something to look at when they go back to school,” she said.

Initially, SHS students were asked to send letters to students in Parkland, Florida, to make them feel loved by students around the country. However, due to the large number of letters they have received, schools are now being encouraged to send banners that are signed by students to show their support for the victims and survivors.

Whitman said she plans on sending the SHS banner as soon as possible. In addition, she will be discussing safety plans for SPS with Superintendent Ron Griffin to ensure Scituate schools have the best procedures in place to handle emergencies.
