Big losses for the Lady Sailors

After a thrilling 24-1 season the Lady Sailor basketball team was met with a shocking blow at their end of the season banquet, their coach was retiring. For seniors, Shannon Brady, Christine Collins, Kate Lemire and Megan Otto this season was meaningful enough.

A trip to the Boston Garden, a South Sectional Championship, and an almost undefeated season is nothing to hang their heads over. And the same goes for Coach Brian Buckley.

Deciding the week before the season ended, Coach Buckley informed Athletic Director Rick Cash that he would not be coming back for his ninth season with the Lady Sailors. During his speech he looked into the faces of all his players and said “I didn’t tell anyone else, because I wanted you to hear it from me.”

No doubt the team will be strong next year, but Coach Buckley could not have asked for a better note to leave on. Loved by his players, past and present, his impact on these countless athletes will stay with them forever.

The memories of a trip to Boston Garden made first as a player his own senior year of high school, and then this past March as the coach of the Lady Sailors will forever stay with Coach Buckley.

Sarah Hoffman, Production Manager

Sarah Hoffman is ready to make the best of her final year at SHS by taking on the responsibility of Production Manager of the Scituation. Her experience as a Junior Intern gives her the much needed organizational skills and habits of holding a serious position on the staff for the 2012-2013 year. That organization is key because Sarah is also Student Council Executive Board President, a class government representative, a member of the Handbook Committee, a varsity field hockey captain, and varsity basketball player. Around town Sarah can be seen babysitting three neighborhood kids, hostessing at the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, or serving up bagels and coffee at Coffee Corner on Sunday mornings. Keeping up with National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society this busy body keeps a packed schedule, but always leaves time for a little fun and relaxation. She spent this past summer at her favorite place: the Spit, boating and relaxing with friends. Sarah can often been witnessed zooming to Morning Glories—her favorite coffee stop—on a weekday morning, listening to country music as she heads into school to read the morning announcements. This senior is ready to have an amazing final year and take on full responsibility as a two-time Scituation Staffer!
