An engineering expert, an experienced video gamer, and a tennis phenomenon, who could this be? None other than senior Drew Paganetti. Although quiet in the hallway, Paganetti has many hidden talents unknown to the average passer-by.
Paganetti seems to have made a positive impact on those that do get to know him. Fellow teammate and classmate Richard Arnold said Paganetti “is the best person in the world. Drew is the best.” But just what makes him such a fascinating and loved individual?
A fun fact about Drew is that his real name is actually Robert. To explain the name switch, he said, “I was named Robert, Drew is my middle name. But my dad’s name is Robert too, so my family called me Drew to avoid confusion, and it stuck.” Whether he goes by Robert or Drew, he appears to make a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
Paganetti also has the grades to back up his great personality. Excelling in math and science, he is known for his skills in classes like AP Physics, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and AP Calculus. Also a new member of SHS’s Math Club, Paganetti has quickly become a front-runner at the club’s competitions. He hopes to study engineering in college, with his top choice being Princeton.
One of Paganetti’s biggest supporters is the engineering and technology teacher, Mr. Mingels. Paganetti has taken multiple CAD and Robotics classes with Mr. Mingels, who said that he “has natural engineering ability and more importantly, curiosity. He wants to know how things work.” Being one of the teachers that wrote Paganetti’s letter of recommendation to colleges, Mr. Mingels said that he should be accepted into Princeton “because he deserves it. He’s earned it. It was a very easy recommendation letter to write.” In fact, Mr. Mingels went as far as to write multiple letters of recommendation for Paganetti to correspond with all the colleges he applied to.
Paganetti is also a big gamer and excels at many of the current popular video games. He posts some of his gaming accomplishments on YouTube and has gotten close to 118,000 views on one video alone. His expertise in gaming contributes to Paganetti’s well-rounded list of achievements.
When not gaming in his spare time, Paganetti enjoys playing pickup sports games, like soccer, with his friends. For school sports, he is a star tennis player during the spring, where he has made great friends. A fellow teammate, senior Mark Kukilis, said that Paganetti “exhibits great leadership and teaches everyone what to do when they don’t know how. He tries really hard.” Paganetti’s work ethic and dedication make him a role model for his fellow teammates.
While everyone else cheers on the Patriots, Paganetti is never afraid to root for the Miami Dolphins. He gave background on his fascination and said, “When I was 5, I went to Florida with my family, and I still go all the time. The first time, when I saw Dan Marino play, I became a fan.” His frequent visits to Florida have only solidified his appreciation for the team.
Paganetti has proven to be a multi-talented student, who is loved by his classmates and teammates. Being so motivated to fulfill his career in engineering, he has soared to the top of his class. The Dolphins fan’s love for playing tennis and soccer, mixed with his knowledge of video games add to the complexity of his range of skills. Drew Paganetti: he’s quiet, intelligent, kind and someone you should really get to know.
