If you’ve ever walked through the art wing and have seen the colorful works of art decorating the walls, there’s a good chance some of it has been by Jessie McLevedge. McLevedge describes herself as a quirky, 18 year-old senior, who thoroughly enjoys sitting down and constructing a piece of art. Next to art, English is one of her favorite subjects, and is currently enrolled in Short Stories with Mr. Scavotto.
Art has been one of McLevedge’s passions for a long time. “It was a mystery to me at first, it just came out of nowhere,” she said. “I like it because I can express my thoughts the way I want to.” Usually artists have their own unique style, and Jessie describes hers as “anime-ish,” but plans to change it in the future. “It helps to have a certain style to make you stand out.” said McLevedge.
Currently enrolled in Honors Art II, McLevedge has been working vigorously to complete profile work. “Jessie McLevedge is a phenomenal artist with enormous talent!” said Ms. Wachta. “Her abilities to draw and represent her ideas visually are outstanding!”
When she is not working on homework or drawing, McLevedge enjoys taking walks around the local lighthouse and hanging out with her family. It is not a very strenuous activity and allows her to be alone with her thoughts. McLevedge lives with her mom, dad, and cat, Charles who are all important aspects of her life. “We’ve been really close and I haven’t had a lot of friends growing up,” she said. “But that only brought us closer.”
One of McLevedge’s favorite recent pieces of art is a drawing of a feather which she made as a good deed for a stranger. “This lady told me ever since her dad died she kept seeing feathers on the ground.” said McLevedge. “I thought it was neat.” McLevedge doesn’t hesitate to jump at an opportunity to give someone who’s feeling down a little friendly encouragement, and has demonstrated so through her art.
Although McLevedge is not completely sure about her future plans, she hopes to attend the Art Institute of Boston. Although the school is one of her top choices, McLevedge would like to explore her other options before finalizing any decisions. It is clear that McLevedge has a bright future with art as she continues to baffle students with her spectacular pieces that will continue to hang on the walls of the art wing for all to see.
