Tailgating, blue face paint, and a “Sailor” flag in hand, Scituate Superfans are gearing up for the varsity football home-opener against Cohasset this Friday night at 7 pm. Although early in the season, this deeply rooted rivalry should make for an interesting game, sure to excite both Scituate and Cohasset fans.
Scituate fans are known for their witty chants, extreme school spirit, and infectious energy that has the power to set the tone for the game. Self-entitled superfan Brian James said,”We are going to tailgate before the game, being school appropriate, of course. It will be huge. Body paint will be used, and I will be on Ben McLarey’s shoulders with a flag.”
Although the chants, rowdy crowd, and spirit in previous years was never closely supervised, SHS Principal, Mr. Wargo, has established new traditions as he stands among the student section to monitor the rambunctious environment.
Many students feel that Wargo’s presence could potentially stifle the liveliness of the students who are revved up to support their fellow classmates on the field. Senior Owen Francis said, “We should definitely have more freedom…because, if we can get louder and show more support for the team, I think it would definitely help them out.”
The fans of SHS are eager to attend Friday nights under the lights. Armed with mittens, hats, and hot chocolate, there’s an unlimited amount of dedication to the boys of fall.
