On October 24, the Scituate Sailors hosted the North Quincy Red Raiders under the Friday night lights. Scituate came into this game on a two-game winning streak after beating Pembroke and Quincy and hoped to keep the streak going with a win against the Red Raiders. The spotlight was on junior running back Grayson Foley, as he was coming off a four-touchdown week in a heated game against Quincy.
The first quarter had no action, as neither team could get in the end zone or kick one through the uprights. The action started in the second quarter. North Quincy was able to get over the goal line via a 27-yard pass to junior receiver Erick De Lima to open up the scorebook, making it 7-0 with the extra point good. After that, however, it was the Jonny Donovan show for the entire game. In the second quarter, the senior captain and quarterback threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Miller Shea, followed by an extra point. The two also connected on another touchdown pass from 18 yards out to make the score 14-7 going into the half.
The two did not stop after the half, as Donovan threw another touchdown pass to Shea in the third quarter, his third score of the game made it 20-7. In the fourth quarter, Donovan was able to get it done with his legs, as he ran the ball in from the one-yard line for another Sailors touchdown. This capped the score at 26-7, and the Sailors walked away with their sixth victory of the season (6-1), while North Quincy fell to 4-3 on the season.
Postgame, Donovan and Shea talked about their connection and how they have been able to work together so well in the passing game this season. Donovan stated, “Even when I’m in doubt, I know I can always get it to him and that he can always make a play.”
Shea had similar thoughts, saying, “They have always had a connection since freshman year, and that the chemistry is there always.”
On Thursday, October 30th, the Sailors will take on Hanover at their home field and look to continue their winning streak as the season transitions into November and the playoffs.
