With Superman’s human upbringing and alien background, he strives to bring justice, truth, and, most importantly, hope to Earth, but he faces tremendous challenges along the way.
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Superman at the box office grossed more than $615 million. On HBO Max, Superman by James Gunn and DC Studios was the platform’s biggest debut other than Barbie by Greta Gerwig and Warner Bros.( Variety)
The Superman story in the latest film has become a fan favorite because of its powerful message. Fans like SHS sophomore Caelinn Achille explained her take that, “The movie seems to be shining a spotlight on minorities and giving them a place to feel represented.”
A message conveyed throughout the movie is that heroism can be demonstrated through a choice to show compassion and kindness, rather than just raw power. The message has left people hopeful long past the end of the movie.
Toward the end of Superman (2025), by James Gunn and DC Studios, a new film, Supergirl, was introduced, slated to come out in June 2026. Supergirl, a well-known character, will be played by Milly Alcock. The movie stars her charming companion, Krypto; they embark on adventures to come, as Krypto sparks excitement among the audience with his charming personality.
This movie includes all the elements of action, sorrow, and possibly redemption. Interest is drawn to the movie’s visuals, music, and the hinted-at plot. Supergirl, a very loved character in the DC Universe, seems to have a bright future, but only time will tell what happens.
Man of Tomorrow (2027), by James Gunn and DC Studios, is a sequel to the already loved movie Superman (2025). A movie that truly sticks with you, and a sequel that openly attracts your attention, this movie will reel fans in. SHS sophomore Declan Lemerande is so excited for Man of Tomorrow to come out that he stated, “I don’t think I can wait until 2027–I want it to come out next week!”
Another new production out of the DC Universe is Peacemaker Season 2 by James Gunn and DC Studios (2025). In this series, after Peacemaker’s victory against the government’s Butterfly Project seen in season 1 (an alien species that aimed to destroy earth), Peacemaker navigates his life trauma and explores a different dimension where he, his father, and brother are heroes called “The Top Trio.” This stands in contrast to his world, where his brother Keith died, and his father is abusive. This new season is has already generated a lot of excitement.
It is important to note that when the Detective Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) started, the primary creative architect was Zach Snyder.
Snyder had different ideas for the movies and didn’t follow the comics because he wanted edgier, darker ideas.
Superman in the Snyder Universe was thought of as a god, above the people, less empathetic. His representation and the character of Superman contradict each other because empathy is what Superman stands for. This simple plotline turned many comic book fans away.
Snyder also tried to cram too many plots into one movie, which didn’t always get resolved, leaving fans disappointed and often turning away from DC entirely. IMDb even rocked a headline, “Zack Snyder’s three unfinished cinematic universes explained”.
We interviewed a lifelong fan, Declan Lemerande, who mentioned, “You get the whole Snyder verse, and it’s insane. They’re trying so hard to do what James Gunn is doing right now.” Many sources distinctly state the complicated relationship between Snyder and the audience.
James Gunn officially started the DCU (Detective Comics Universe) in 2024 with the animated series Creature Commandos with DC Studios, the show stars a team made out of monsters assembled by Amanda Waller for dangerous missions, where in the end, we saw the betrayal of Princess Ilana Rostovic. This ended up being very well perceived by its audience.
Soon after, in the summer of 2025, when Superman was released, it became a massive success, in contrast to the horrid reviews of the last “stand-alone” Superman movie, Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice by Zack Snyder and Warner Bros Pictures 2016.

A series of releases where fans can discover new heroes and powers never seen before. James Gunn shas tarted new projects that not only get fans excited to see the main faces of DC but also get them excited to see new heroes they’ve never seen before.
There are new beginnings and exciting projects in the works. Speculations of “Where is DC going now?” is on everyone’s minds, but only time can reveal the truth.
