Scituate High School’s weight room offers athletes opportunities to stay fit during the on and off seasons.

Students attending Scituate High School can access the weight room and should take advantage of it. The weight room has many benefits when it comes to working out, especially for young adults.

The benefits of strength training are plentiful. According to TeensHealth.org, lifting weights will improve overall fitness, increase lean body mass, reduce body fat, and help burn more calories at rest. In addition to increased strength, The Mayo Clinic reported that teens can gain various benefits from regular strength training, such as better physical endurance, enhanced self-esteem, and greater self-confidence.

VeryWellFit.com reported that working out also improves mental health. Strength training can also boost our brain activity and fight against dementia. “Incorporating strength training into your routine can make you feel more mentally engaged and boost your mental energy and focus,” says certified personal trainer Kristie Alicea.

Mr. Luette, the Assistant Principal at Scituate High School, reported that the equipment was donated. Schedules for specific team use are usually determined by Mr. Scott Paine, Scituate’s  Athletic Director.

Students and athletes can access the weight room and should contact Mr. Paine, or Athletic Trainer Chris Alves for updated weight room hours.  Mr Luette said, “Everybody should be working out you know… I have been working out since I was around 11 years old. Get in the weight room as soon as possible.”
