The library is Now Closed in the Afternoons

The Scituate High School library will now be closed to students in the afternoons. The doors are locked from 11:30 to last bell; however, it is open after school and in the mornings.

The librarian, Susan Lydon, explains that students will “not be able to check out books in the afternoon.” She also makes it clear that the reason the library is closed at the start of lunch block is that students cannot use the space without adult supervision.

This is a dramatic change for students who are used to using the library during lunch, H-Block, and last block. Students with a study at the end of the day are reeling from this change. “I don’t understand the purpose of a library if we can’t use it,” says senior Jill Ross.
