Your March Madness bracket is not the only thing that is busted this month. Recent storms collapsed the visitor’s dugout on the Scituate High School varsity baseball field. SHS Athletic Director William Luette said in an email Tuesday that the damage occurred mostly in the first–and worst–storm we had three weeks ago.

Upon closer inspection, the dugout is bowed in the middle, and much of the paneling on the back side has been ripped out. The foundation of cinder blocks has also been largely destroyed. The damage is so extensive, said Luette, that the dugout will have to be torn down completely to be rebuilt.

He also mentioned that the funds for the new dugout will be paid for by an insurance claim from the school.

In an effort to prevent future damage to the fields, Luette explained how the administration is “in the process” of making a field plan for the back part of the school.

Luette concluded by explaining how the baseball team will not miss any of its scheduled games, despite the damage.
