Scituate High School senior Molly Sullivan won the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest for being an outstanding member of the community. This award, created in 1934, honors patriotism, service, and above all good citizenship.

Sullivan was recommend by SHS teachers for the award because of her good will and selflessness. The requirement was just being a good student and getting involved in school and town events. Her dedication to the community gave her the edge to win the prestigious award.

The senior class took a vote on five of their nominated peers–granting the prize and title to Sullivan. Revealing she didn’t know she was nominated until the day of voting, Sullivan said, “It was one of those weird things where I came into homeroom and my name was on a ballot and then a week later they told me I won.”

Sullivan won a $400 scholarship and a chance for an even greater prize. Soon after winning, Sullivan wrote an essay on her experiences with good citizenship and patriotism. This will go to the DAR State Competition with a grand prize of $5,000 scholarship. Sullivan said, “I have my fingers crossed for states.”
