Joining the Senior Sleigh Ride today is senior Colby Mullen–otherwise known as “Robe” to his close friends. The nickname originated from his little brother, SHS junior Kyle Mullen, who couldn’t pronounce Colby when he was younger and started spitting out the word “Robe.”

Colby’s natural leadership skills made him a two-time captain for the boys’ varsity soccer team during his junior and senior years. Colby is most proud of his captainship as a junior on the soccer team. This past fall playing soccer as a senior, he led the team to a first-round upset of #9 seed Melrose, saying they “exceeded everyone’s expectations.”

Colby’s love for soccer brought him to Spain, specifically Madrid and Barcelona, with his club soccer team based out of the Cohasset Sports Complex: Galway Rovers F.C. Colby said the culture in Spain really stood out to him, something different than he is used to in America.

In addition to excelling on the soccer field, Colby is an excellent student. A member of the National Honor Society, Colby is a High Honor Roll student. Taking part in DECA and Best Buddies, he tries to stay involved; however, looking back on his time at SHS, he wishes he was involved with more clubs. Colby’s favorite class was AP Statistics with Jamie Forde during his junior year. Colby liked his engaging teaching style as well as his great sense of humor. Forde was able to make math fun for Colby. In fact, his teaching made such a profound impact on Colby that he now wants to go to college and pursue a degree in mathematics.

Colby is looking to finish his senior year strong because of an abnormal junior year that limited his high school experiences and opportunities. He is happy to see his close peers once again and wants to finish the year with everybody–without cohorts and masks.

As the holidays approach, Colby is looking forward to spending time with his family, as his two older brothers are back from college. He is also looking forward to hanging out with his neighborhood friends.

Colby’s one wish for Santa is to be accepted to all the colleges where he applied so he has a wide range of options. Out of everyone in the world, Colby would love to bring Ronaldo as his partner on the Sleigh Ride.
