Fenway Flu Source of Record Absences

On Halloween Day, the Fenway Flu struck a shocking 303 students at Scituate High School, forcing them all to be absent. The proud citizens of Boston — both young and old — took to the streets to celebrate the Red Sox after winning the 2018 World Series.

The majority of students took the train into the city to see this “once in a lifetime experience,” said Daisy Donovan, a senior at Scituate High School. Students from towns all across Massachusetts came to Boston to honor the new World Series Champions. Cohasset senior Ian Dunkelberger said his favorite part was “seeing all the players in real life.”

SHS senior Erin Miller said her teachers didn’t mind the number of absences because “they want us to go have fun.” In fact, some teachers encouraged their students — especially their seniors — to partake in the event due to the spontaneity of it and the local sense of pride. Teachers can “assume what they assume,” said Dunkelberger, summarizing the chaos of the day and the graciousness of high school teachers looking the other way.
