New Librarian Takes Lead at SHS

Lydon takes the helm as SHS librarian

Notice someone different in the library this year? School librarian Susan Lydon has taken over the job, and she’s very excited to work with SHS students.

Lydon was born and raised in Braintree, Massachusetts. She graduated from Bates College in Maine, where she majored in English, with a minor in history. After finishing college, Lydon completed her Masters in English at the University of Connecticut. When asked why she wanted to be a librarian, Lydon explained that she loved doing research at the university’s rare book library, where she did a project on 18th-century cookbooks. According to Lydon, you find information on women’s history from cookbooks. “The library seems like a fun place to work,” said Lydon.

When not in school, Lydon enjoys reading additional books for her book club or exploring new foods and art exhibits. Her favorite food is Indian. She also enjoys hanging out with her twin sister when they get the chance. Lydon’s sister currently lives in Vermont. According to Lydon, the sisters share a lot of fun memories together, like the time they switched clothes and backpacks in high school. ¨One of us went to history twice and the other one of us went to English twice,¨ she said.

Though Lydon is new to Scituate High School, she said, ¨Everybody is really nice and friendly.¨
