Looking Back on Prom

Juniors danced the night away at Indian Pond Country Club on May 18th

On  Friday, May 18, the SHS junior prom was held at the Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston. The evening began at 5:30 p.m. when students walked through the SHS Arts Plaza with friends, families, and townspeople lining up to take their photos. After hours of preparation, students were excited as they loaded on to the buses.

Upon arrival in Kingston, students gathered on the outside balcony and took pictures with a scenic background of the green golf course. Dinner was then served: a garden salad and rolls to start, followed by a meal of chicken- broccoli-ziti. Popcorn was available later in the night, along with water and soda.

During the prom, students discovered a variety of activities to keep them busy–one of them being a creative photo booth with many props. This was very popular because a professional photographer printed out photo strips for students to keep as souvenirs from the night. Each photo strip included a design with blue writing: “Scituate High School Prom 2018.” The DJ played a variety of music that all students appeared to enjoy as they danced the night away.

After the night was over, students reflected on their favorite parts of prom. Junior Caroline James said her personal highlight was “getting ready with all my friends…and seeing DaSante dance.”  Junior DaSante Woodard replied to James’ opinion by saying that he loved to dance. He said his favorite part was “seeing all my friends look good…we clean up very nice.” Junior Emma Preuss stated that prom was “the first dance that kind of everyone in the grade goes to” because other dances have a much lower attendance than prom.

Junior Taylor Varnum, who is the student government secretary for the class of 2019, said, “It was really nice to see hard work pay off.”  Varnum and fellow student government members have been working toward this occasion for the past three years. Senior Christian Eckelhofer said that his favorite part of prom was the food.

It seems that all students who attended this year’s prom had a great time spending the night with their friends, dancing, taking pictures, and eating good food.
