An Egg Broke the Internet

Jack Kimball and Danny Todd

Are you yolking me?! It has finally been done! Instagram’s most-liked picture–of Kylie Jenner’s baby–has been broken–by an egg.

The date was January 4th, 2019, when the Instagram account @World_Record_Egg posted their first picture to Instagram. You may think with as many likes as they were able to obtain, the picture must be nothing short of spectacular. Nope. It was just an egg. Nothing special, just a plain egg.

Racking up with 43 MILLION likes (as of January 15th), @world_record_egg has now destroyed the previous record by over 25 million. Kylie Jenner’s picture of her newborn, Stormie, only garnered about 18.5 million likes after it was posted.

The picture was posted with the caption, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram.” They accomplished this egg-cellent goal on January 13, which was a week and a half after the picture was posted.

Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself, that’s a lot of likes. Well, you are correct! In fact, fewer people live in Canada and Iraq, and 43 million is the approximate population of  Argentina.

The Internet works in mysterious ways, and nobody really knows why the egg has gotten this many likes. Is it the egg’s curvature? Its physique? Or maybe the freckles?

If you were to gain anything from this outstanding accomplishment, it would be that anything is possible. ANYTHING. Just like the egg itself said in an Instagram story, “What a time to be alive.”
