Former Jonas Brothers star Joe Jonas is on the rise once again. Leading the new hit band DNCE, Joe, much like his brother Nick, has a voice that is able to mature as he sings with a passionate R&B vibe. The new band, formed in 2015, includes four members: lead singer Joe Jonas, drummer Jack Lawless, bassist Cole Whittle, and lead guitarist JinJoo. Their EP, Swaay, is a fun, new addition to current pop music. Featuring a disco-funk vibe, each song is a 70’s inspired ball of fun with a little bit of nonsense.

DNCE’s debut single, “Cake by the Ocean,” released September 18, 2015, sets the mood for a fun-filled sound. “Cake by the Ocean” features a particularly strong baseline that captivates listeners from the very beginning. It is a bonafide party song, sure to make anyone sing and dance along to the funny lyrics and upbeat sound.

The EP includes three other unique and catchy songs: “Toothbrush,” “Pay My Rent,” and “Jinx.” The band’s unconventionality is not only shown through their quirky lyrics but also through the music sound and instruments. The ‘power ballad’ of the EP, “Jinx,” features kazoo riffs, which add a creative and fun touch to the pleasing musical tone.
