Loring Hall Theatre Review

The feeling you get when you go to Loring Hall Theatre in Hingham is a feeling that has been lost somewhere over the years. The “old fashioned way” may forever be the best way to watch a movie. According to the website Cinema Treasures, Loring Hall opened in 1852 in historic Hingham Square and became a movie house in 1936. Whether it’s date night, a girls’ night out, or you are just looking for something to do — either by yourself or with your friends — Loring Hall is definitely the place to go. The red curtains and high ceiling create a feeling of a true theatre that is hard to come by nowadays.

When you walk in through the arched double red doors there is one glass ticket booth, one movie, one theatre, one concession stand, and endless smiles. (There may be occasional crying during a heartfelt movie, but that’s a given.) You can choose to watch the movie from the balcony overhead or stay on the main floor. You also have the option to cuddle up with hot tea, popcorn, soda or candy.

After the movie, people slowly trickle out of the theater. You may want to stroll down the street to Nona’s Ice Cream Shop for a post-movie treat. The sentimental experience you get from the Loring Hall Theatre will always stay with you, and you may never pass on an opportunity to go back!
