Maddie and Tae’s latest country album Start Here will take any Scituate kid away from the rural, sea town we know. All eleven songs took me down South, where AP exams, homework, and SAT’s were pushed out of my mind.

Listening to Start Here took me into a different world that was calming and soothing yet upbeat and inspirational. Girl in a Country Song reminded me of Carrie Underwood, which instantly hooked me. The sass and spunk of Maddie and Tae will give any other country singer a run for their money. Maddie and Tae make fun of the cliche country girl and tell the listener how it should be. Although it’s funny, and pokes fun of the way most country artists depict girls in the South, all good jokes contain truth. I personally think it’s an awesome way to show that not all country girls are the way that artists depict them.

My favorite song on the album has to be Fly. A sudden change in the album from the humorous side of Maddie and Tae, Fly exposed Maddie and Tae’s more serious and motivational side. Fly depicts the perseverance and determination one must have through their chance to obtain what they want. Fly also made me want to go run a marathon — not because it’s hard, but because it gave me the energy to do whatever I want. Even if I fail, I can always learn to fly through it. (This song was obviously added to my football pre-game warm up playlist.)

Although not all the songs on Start Here were on the same caliber as Fly, most of the songs had a great melody, and the voices of Maddie and Tae are truly beautiful. Some noteable mentions that I insist you listen to include After the Storm Blows Through, Waiting on a Plane, and Your Side of Town. Whether you’re sitting in your room doing homework, getting ready for a football game, or just riding in the car, I highly recommend listening to Maddie and Tae’s album Start Here. Overall rating 8.5 out of 10.
