With April vacation right around the corner, students are ready for the anticipated break from school. February break was way too short and everyone knows March is the worst month with awful weather and no early releases or days off. While a vacation away from school means a week of sleeping in and relaxing for some, others are looking for something new to do. So what are some ideas for the ideal, affordable spring road trip?
Cape Cod
From Bourne all the way to Provincetown, there’s plenty to do on the Cape. If the weather’s warm enough, there are endless beaches where you can relax, swim, or have a barbecue. You won’t be bored on the drive down there either; you can drive along the Cape Cod Canal and stop at the many restaurants and attractions along the way. And if you feel like taking a longer trip, head down to P-town which is famous for its shopping and great restaurants.
Boston
So we’ve all been to Boston plenty of times, but the great thing about this city is that there’s always something to do. Take the commuter rail to South Station and do some shopping at Fanueil Hall or Newbury Street and then head over to the North End for dinner. Or, since the season will be just beginning, buy some cheap bleacher tickets and go to a Red Sox game. If you’re looking for museums, Boston has some of the best, from the MFA, to the Museum of Science. And if you’re just looking to walk around the city, go to the Boston Public Garden or Boston Common, the two most famous parks in the city.
Providence
Taking a trip to Providence is the perfect balance between going somewhere new and out-of-state while not being too expensive. Looking to do some shopping? Be sure to head to Providence Place, one of the biggest malls in New England with tons of stores, restaurants, and entertainment attractions such as Dave and Buster’s or the mall’s IMAX theatre. Providence is also home to the infamous Roger Williams Zoo, which may sound age-inappropriate but you could be surprised how fun it can be. Finally, from spring to fall, Providence hosts WaterFire Providence, a multi-sensory art attraction with a series of bonfires along the three main Providence rivers.
So maybe you’re not going on a cruise or visiting the Bahamas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find something fun to do. As high school students, we may be on a budget but making our spring break memorable can easily be done.
