Cecily Fasanella, Managing Editor

For Cecily Fasanella, senior year may be her last time as a student at Scituate high school, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late for her to take on a new role as Managing Editor of The Scituation. While she may be new to student journalism, she is a well-rounded “Renaissance woman” in her own right as she has a love for photography and cooking on her own time and partakes in Drama, the ski-team and the foreign service club as extracurricular activities. Her arrival as a member of The Scituation leadership team has been a long time coming as Cecily has been reading The Scituation since freshmen year, and the publications have often been one of her favorite parts of the school year. Cecily has an extremely hard work ethic which means she is willing to put in as much work as is needed to get the job done and this will likely help her later in life as she pursues a career in foreign affairs. With a job as a diplomat in her crosshairs, she wants to make a difference to people around the world. While her summer was pretty ordinary, full of hanging with friends, working, interning for Jim Cantwell and visiting Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Vermont, her most exciting experiences are anything but as she was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in a homestay in Mexico which entailed learning more about Mexican culture and communicating with her host family in her native tongue. In fact, it’s been this progression in spanish that brings Cecily the most pride and that has instilled in her a very important life lesson. Through her spanish studies and the mistakes they involve, she learned that, ”mistakes aren’t only a part of learning, but they are things that really help you connect with other people because, as long as they see you are trying, mistakes can be really funny to them, and sometimes it’s the funny mistakes you make that get people to like you and to trust you, and through that I’ve been able to learn a lot of things from people I wouldn’t be able to if I hadn’t spoken spanish.” Cecily’s motivation, well-roundedness, hard work- ethic and drive to succeed ensure she will make an excellent addition to The Scituation as Managing Editor.
