Earlier this week, the Patriots announced the trade of Jamie Collins, an outside linebacker, to the Cleveland Browns for a conditional third-round draft pick. The 27-year-old would be a free agent after this season.

The trade has been received with outcry due to Collins’ versatility and skill on the field. Collins has been one of the best performing defense on this Pats this season although he has already missed one game against the Cincinnati Bengals this year due to a hip injury, but has played in every other game this season.

Collins was a second-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2013 and had played for them since. He is 7th in the NFL for interceptions this season and has averaged three sacks per year. This trade leaves the Patriots defense weakened with the loss of Collins and Don’t’a Hightower having already missed two games this season due to a knee injury.
