Winter Swan Song for SHS Auditorium

Courtney McCarthy, Staff Writer

The Scituate High School auditorium is filled with memories. As construction is underway, one may feel nostalgic knowing that the auditorium and chorus room are going to be completely redone over the next year. Mr. Richter spoke about the performances and the memories that have taken place in the auditorium and chorus room over his many years of teaching. Having designed the chorus room himself, Mr. Richter said the relocation and redesign of the chorus room is going to be difficult, but it is absolutely worthwhile in the end.

It is estimated to take approximately one year to create the new auditorium and chorus room; however, both spaces will be greatly improved. The auditorium is going to be two times the size of the current auditorium. Every person in the audience will be able to see the stage clearly, the sound quality will improve immensely, and the aisles will be lighted to make it easier for people to get to their seats.

The most recent winter concert was most likely the last concert to be held in the current SHS auditorium. As the booming sound of “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah” filled the auditorium, 50 years of tradition and a flood of emotions encompassed the room. Mr. Richter expressed his pride in each group and commended the growth they displayed.
