Every year, Scituate High School’s drama club participates in the METG Preliminary Drama Competition. On Saturday, February 28, 2015, the drama club left to compete in the festival, which was hosted by Brockton High School. Although their play “The Raft of the Medusa” did not move on to the next round, a few awards were presented to the students of Scituate. Maggie Harrigan won a “Stage Manager Award.” She said, “I wasn’t expecting it. It kind of came out of nowhere. Someone said my face exploded because I was really happy.” Aisling Sheahan won an acting award for “The Role of Ann,” Chris MacDonald won an acting award for “The Role of Allan,” Sean Francis won an acting award for “The Role of Little Fox,” and Samantha Dwyer won a “Costume Department Award.” Directors Ty and Amy Lemerande are extremely proud of every SHS student who participated in this competition. Amy said, ““The biggest joy of all is watching the cast and crew of Scituate Drama cheering everyone on. All 42 students from Scituate were genuinely thrilled watching all the other performances and celebrating every award given.”
Scituate High School has a reputation for bringing a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the METG Competition. Traditionally, students create t-shirts, and they cut the sleeves from the shirts. This year, Scituate students tried to engage all the students from other schools in drama games. “We really brought the spirit to Festival,” commented SHS senior Teddy Ragge. Everyone who participated should be extremely proud of themselves. The Scituate community has the opportunity to see an encore performance of “The Raft of the Medusa” on March 6, 2015 and March 7, 2015 in the SHS auditorium. The forty minute performance is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are five dollars for students and eight dollars for adults.
