Only a few months after the release of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4s burst onto the scene, instantly becoming a worldwide “must-have.” The iPhone 4s was introduced to the world in October and instantly stole the title as “King of Phones,” according to Mac Life Magazine. But how did it achieve this title? If the iPhone 4 was so amazing, how could the iPhone 4s be any different? The design is the exact same, the real change is in the anatomy of the phone.
One of the most important changes is the addition of the A5 chip. This little miracle chip made its debut in the iPad 2, and is now making its way to the iPhone family. According to senior VP of product marketing at Apple, Phil Schiller, the chip allows the iPhone 4s to be twice as fast as the iPhone 4 at central processing (CPU) tasks, and its dual-core-graphic-processing power is seven times faster. “That A5 chip is really, really powerful, just for a graphics standpoint alone,” shares Donald Mustard, founder and creative director at Chair Entertainment. In addition, the A5 chip allows for the new voice activated Siri, enhanced photo quality from 5 megapixels to the iPhone 4S’s impressive 8 megapixels, and AirPlay which allows the streaming of music and photos to Apple TV without the hassle of wires.
One of the most unique aspects of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s is the stainless steel band wrapped around the iPhone that serves as the antenna system. On the left side of the phone lie the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS antennas, and on the other three sides lies the cellular antenna. The antenna improvements in the iPhone 4s allows it to use almost triple the amount of megabits per second, allowing for the fastest downloads in iPhone history.
Many have been wondering why it is called the iPhone 4s and not the iPhone 5. There is one simple answer to that question: Siri. Aside from the faster downloads, improved battery life, and overall awesomeness of the iPhone 4s, Siri is what takes it to a whole other level. This voice activated technology will become a user’s best friend. Siri has all the answers and in three languages: English, French and German. Siri was born in 2007 and within a matter of months Apple had bought the technology for an estimated $200 million according to Mac Life magazine.
“What Siri brings to the table is the ability to accomplish tasks using a variety of different services simultaneously, with an intimate understanding of context and intent,” explains Vice Presient of SRI International, Norman Winarsky. Those “different services” Winarsky mentions include Apple’s partners, including Yelp, Wikipedia, and Wolfram Alpha.
If you are looking for a smart phone and willing to spend $30 to $70 a month in addition to your regular phone bill, the iPhone 4s is the one for you. The iPhone is simply unbeatable, but watch out, the iPhone 5 will be here before you know it. Although Steve Jobs, the mastermind behind the iPhone, is gone, the power of the iPhone is only growing stronger.
