“Never touch a woman’s purse.” This phrase leaves one to wonder why you should never dare to enter, but is the real reason because a woman’s purse is more like a bacterial breeding ground? Many people see a purse as a beautiful piece of artwork, but little do they know that’s far from the truth.
According to Snopes.com a study was conducted at a mall with 50 woman’s purses and they found that 1 out of 4 purses carried the E COLI bacteria. So the famous phrase holds true, next time you think twice about going into someone else’s purse, I would seriously reconsider. When asked about the problem Junior Brianna DeBarros said “You don’t know what you can find in girls purses these days. Girls put their purses everywhere they go, they don’t realize what their carrying with them everywhere.” Now a days we are dropping our purses wherever we sit, so this sure doesn’t help the bacteria problem. Junior Kate McCormack also said “I don’t really ever think about it, but when you do think about it you throw all of your stuff into your bag, especially money because money is really dirty.” Purses carry all of our germs and bacteria from one place to another, but think that’s scary well the New York City Subway provides for some serious competition.
The New York City Subway has a reputation for its dirty appearance. The system is an intricate work of several cars that run underground the city blocks. According to staphangers.com in 1998 the Subway cars were 73% dirty or really dirty. Now, considering that is more than half of the New York City Subway cars I would think twice and be careful the next time you reach to grab one of the safety bars. But if this grosses you out don’t worry, because the Metro Mitt has been invented to keep all of you safe and clean whilst riding the Subway. The Metro Mitt is a plastic reusable bag that goes over your hand to protect yourself from the germs on the Subway safety bars.
Also, According to the NYC Subway Schmutz ‘09 survey half of the NYC subway lines are considered dirty. Metromitt.com even said each human carries around 150 bacterial species. If you think about it there’s a good chance that you ride on one of those metro cars infested with germs, so it may be a good idea to pick up a metro mitt.
The Scituation’s Facebook page also held a survey to see what our peers had to say about the issue. Out of the eleven people who voted seven people said that the NYC Subway was dirtier than a handbag, while four disputed this point. So it’s your time to decide what do you think is dirtier, the New York City Subway or your handbag?
